sorting clothes in thrift storeSorting clothes and household items in the Silver City Gospel Mission Thrift Store is one of our primary tasks.  We get hundreds of new items weekly and if we don’t stay on top of it are quickly overwhelmed – so we need all the help we can get in this area.

Volunteers can either set their own hours or we can set up a set day and time for you to come in.  Feel free to come and go as you please or take a break in the soup kitchen.  The sorting hours run every Monday through Friday from 8:30 am until 1:30 pm.

What Is Sorting?

You will be taking items out of boxes and bags and sorting them for cleanliness and usability / sell-ability and then hanging them in the store or pricing items and putting them on shelves.

Our sorters have a great time and like to catch up on the daily activities in each other’s lives.  This job is perfect for seniors who want to share their advice and pass their time doing something for others.

It is also great for the younger generation as they get to learn from their elders and really make a difference in some of the families that come in who just might need some coats for their kids.

“We make a living by what we do, but we make a life by what we give”
