Happy Fall Y’all

Print page

Dear Friends,

Fall is such a wonderfully colorful time of year here in southwestern New Mexico. The Gila National Forest is one of my favorite places to hike and explore, finding solitude in God’s creation, especially after a busy week here at the Silver City Gospel Mission.

Although fall officially started in September this year, we are starting to see the signs of its coming around our communities. The days will shorten, the tree leaves will turn and autumn-themed events and decorations will flavor our daily lives.

The change of seasons can be an exciting time, filled with annual activities and holidays that we look forward to experiencing. It can also be unsettling if you are homeless and living in the streets without Jesus in your life. Our father cares for every one of His creations, from the littlest sparrow to the mightiest leviathan as well as the saved and unsaved. We can rest assured in any time of uncertainty that His love and provision for us will never fail. At the Gospel mission we provide Gods hope and love; through the services we provide to the lost, lonely and homeless.

To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: Ecclesiastes 3:1 KJV

Ecclesiastes gives us many examples of seasons we’ll face in life: times of birth, death, weeping and joy. The Bible shows us that experiencing good and bad times in our lives is normal and to be expected. Though it’s easy to hold onto our hope in happy situations, we shouldn’t let changing circumstances cause our faith to falter. Jesus promised us in John 16: 33 that: These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

God is with us in every season of our life. When we face the unknown, we can trust that He is in control and working out every situation for our good.

This month, as we say goodbye to summer and turn our attention to the coming of fall, its harvest and Thanksgiving Day celebrations, let us remember the good plans that He has for us and our future,(Jeremiah 29:11) both here on earth and in Heaven. This focus will create in us a firm foundation that never sways in the face of change and challenge.

Gospel Mission will be providing 12 thanksgiving boxes to families with school age child as well as serving lunch at the Mission on Thanksgiving Day. If you would like to adopt a family or assist with the Thanksgiving or Christmas meals, please contact Amy 575-388-5071

We are also providing Winter Prep kits to those folks in need. Winter prep kits will include the following: Tent, tarp, sleeping bag, wool blanket, cold weather hats, gloves, scarves, socks and thermal underwear, winter boots and hand/foot warmer packets.

Over the past six months with monies you provided we were able to serve 5830 hot meals at the Mission! Provided 637 children with food and clothing, offered 1447 senior citizens healthy food boxes. The Mission also assisted 1338 households with food bags. I personally was able to make case management contact with 356 folks in need, praying with most of them.

Physical donations can be dropped off at the Mission, Monday, Wednesday and Fridays 9am-12:30pm we are at 111 S. Texas St. (Behind Jalisco’s restaurant)

Monetary donations to fund winter prep kits and support our undertaking can be mailed to:

Blessed 4th

Dear friends,

After such a long cold winter and crazy spring I can hardly believe that summer is finally here in southwestern New Mexico.

With some of the long hot days reaching just over ninety and the nights dipping in the low-fifties some of our folks are in need of: sunscreen, after burn gel, chap stick, bug repellant, rain ponchos (98₵ at Walmart), deodorant, combs, brushes, feminine hygiene products, shower shoes or flip flops, razors, baby wipes and bottles of water (10 to 12oz size)

Since January 2019 Silver City Gospel Mission has served:

6342 Meals, 1552 Food Bags, 4811 Households, 921 Children

Aside from our weekly Bible studies on Tuesdays and Thursdays, we have also started a weekly ESL (English as a Second Language), which began back in February of this year. SCGM also supplied Deming Asylum seekers with baby supplies, ie diapers, clothes etc. As well as gently used sheets and blankets we recused from the hospital.

We could not continue this work without your abundant prayers and monetary donations

Household Donations can be dropped off at 111 S. Texas St. Monday thru Friday 830am-130pm

Or mailed to PO Box 5198 Silver City, NM 88062

In HIS service

Amy

Spring has sprung

Spring is finally here!  Image result for crocus in snow

I was very excited to see the little green crocus sprouts coming up out of the snow a couple of weeks ago.

Spring time is so amazing to me, one day the trees look dead and ugly and the next they have little green buds on them.

Spring time gives us hope and new purpose, (Jeremiah 29:11)

As spring moves into Easter, we celebrate the resurrection day of the Lord Christ Jesus.  It is a time when the deadliness of wintertime is past, and new life of springtime begins. It is a resurrection time in nature. The dead grass, flowers, and trees all begin to experience a springtime resurrection. Even the singing birds join in the springtime celebration. The squirrels seem happier and the skies are brighter. April showers bring even more flowers. Easter represents new life. At Christmas, we celebrate His birth. At Easter, we celebrate the resurrection of our Lord and Savior. Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins, but then on the third day He rose from the grave as our Risen Savior. Hallelujah! He is alive.

“And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins” (I Cor. 15:17).

Thank God our faith is not in vain. He arose! He is alive! Our sins have been forgiven.

with blessings and some trials, mostly Gods amazing grace!

If you have not been in our store lately, well come on down.

Garreth Rivas our store manager has really spruced it up!
