“Try not to become a person of success but a person of value.”

If you’ve ever experienced a period in your life when your back was up against the wall and you didn’t know where the help was going to come from and despaired of not having anyone to care about you, you will probably know how our guests feel most of the time.

Fact: we live in a time of rising inflation and rampant and systemic social inequality. As a result, the people who come into the Mission are very often victims of circumstances that are difficult, traumatizing, and mostly out of their control.

It is easy to dismiss the average person on the street as lazy or seeking a handout — until you begin to hear their stories.

Stories about evictions, drug addiction, unjust punishment. Stories about losing children and loved ones, cruelty at the hands of others, of not being able to access medical care safely and without incrimination. Our work is about holding all those stories in a way that continues to love the people who have lived those stories into a place of possibility and of hope for the future.

Much more than a service project, volunteering at the Silver City Gospel Mission is a rare opportunity to witness Christ’s love in action. Because we believe that Christ alone is the one who can change lives.

If you are a student studying for your MSW, we gladly will work with your program to help you fulfill your credit hours towards your degree while gaining invaluable experience.

If you are called to simply love, if you are called to be a vessel of light bringing healing and gentle witness to the poorest of our community, we want you.

It can get dark out there.
Be a
light to other souls…Volunteer with us.

We become what we love, and what we love shapes what we become.
— Clare of Assisi

SO…Where do you see yourself?

  • Serving meals in our soup kitchen?

  • Sorting donations in our thrift store?

  • Listening to our guests over lunch?

We have a place for you.
