Hina, our thrift store supervisor, recently told me a story about an old stuffed rabbit that she used to drag along as a kid.
It was always with her. Missing an eye, torn and dirty, she clung to it day and night. Without it, she felt insecure.
So too, for some of our guests at the Gospel Mission. Some of them put their security in alcohol. Some in drugs. Some in their friends on the street. Empty promises and empty hope that always leads to more suffering.
And many of us used to be the same as a lot of the people we see, putting out faith in empty promises. In illusions that money can make us secure; or status; or success; or popularity.
We've all heard of people who commit suicide following some financial reversal; including all those people who jumped from tall buildings to their death following the stock market crash of 1929. They couldn't bear facing life without their “rabbit.”
At the Mission, we try and help those we serve see a little more clearly. To see that it is God himself that is the source of their security and not anything else. To help them grow beyond the need for their security blanket, whatever it may be.
We are looking for a Bible Study Teacher for Wednesday mornings between 9 and 10 am.

Bible Study meets in the soup kitchen when everyone is having breakfast and is very informal. Many of these guys just need a friend to talk to and someone to give them a little encouragement.
Topics can be of your choice and we even show Christian movies or videos (like YouTube), or listen to podcasts from time to time. You don't have to be an expert, but you do have to be a born-again believer who knows that surrendering all to Christ is a pretty good way to go.
