When you have no permanent place to rest your head, it's sometimes the smallest things that can make a big difference and give you hope and brighten your spirits for a time.
Small things like being able to brush your teeth and wash your hair can really give a person a chance to sit back for a moment, relax from the daily hunt for survival and give yourself a breather.
Recently, the Elks Club of Silver City donated $5,000 worth of hygiene products to the Gospel Mission.
Included in this donation were:
- 540 rolls of toilet paper
- 576 toothbrushes
- 576 tubes of toothpaste
- 900 bars of soap
- 1,000 bottles of shampoo/conditioner
Instrumental in this effort was Connie Shivner, Gospel Mission Thrift Store Supervisor who worked her persuasive and logistics magic to make this possible.
These items will be put to good use in the Mission showers which get heavy use, will be used in the Sierra House Women And Children's Shelter, and will also be handed out in packages, hopefully, made up by a local school class (pending).
Items like these help our homeless men, women, and children improve their health, appearance, self-esteem, and reintegration into society.
A huge thank you to Connie and the great folks from Elks Lodge #413. You guys put your money where your mouth is and we truly appreciate your continued support!
