I was making coffee the other day and thinking about a homeless guy who had come in one morning a few winters ago.
It was bitter cold and we put a blanket around him and gave him a cup of hot coffee, but he was shivering so badly that the cup dropped from his hands, fell upon the floor and broke into a million pieces.
And I will never forget what he said when it happened…
“Just like my life – broken and scattered upon the floor.”
We see many people each day who have had their lives broken beyond what they think is repairable.
Lives that have been broken by everything from divorce or abandonment, addictions, mental illness, and home or job loss to physical, mental and sexual abuse and slavery.
It is heartbreaking to see some of these souls so lost, dazed and confused by some pretty bad breaks.
And when I see a life that has been broken into a million pieces and scattered upon the floor, I get frustrated because I know there is not very much I can do myself to help these guys besides feed, clothe, shelter, talk to them and try and get them some help.
But I also believe that with God, all things are possible!
Which is why we have our daily Bible study.
It is held every morning from 9-10 am and we stick to the basics teaching Biblical principles that are useful for broken lives.
Topics like love, hope, faith and joy. Courage, commitment and ethics.
And some of the discussion that accompanies these topics can get pretty intense when you are dealing with people who are in it for their survival.
So if you’d like to help out or participate in some of these discussions, feel free to drop by and join in.
Everyone, regardless of their religion or lack of one is welcome, for each of us have been through some struggles that may help someone else out.
“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil; for Thou art with me; Thy rod and Thy staff, they comfort me.”
~ Psalm 23:4
