When she stomped into the thrift store with her white and purple hair a little before 8 am, I knew right away that we were in for a pretty rough day.
Her hair was going every which way and the grim look she had on her face as she started sorting donations were enough to make the hair on the back of my neck stand up.
Hats here … Belts there … Purses to the back.
Forks, knives, spoons and pans are missing from this stack.
Soon, soon our guests will come and I’m supposed to smile;
But wait, wait here it is at the bottom of this pile!
As she reached in and pulled out a stylish mafia hat and with a childlike grin she placed it rakishly on her noggin and I knew right away that things were starting to look up.
… We get all sorts of donations at the thrift store.
Everything from stylish hats, to brand new purses, to unique artwork.
Not only do we sell to the general public which helps us keep the lights one, but we also give away items of clothing, coats and blankets to those in need and household items for folks who have talked to our case worker and are in the process of setting up a new house.
We accept donations every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday between 8:30-1:30 and if you’d like to lend a hand sorting things out, please drop by anytime and we will put you to work for however long you wish to stay.
And as for the woman in the mafia hat …She is cheerfully smiling to this day 🙂
