Even though there is a touch of Spring in the air, I’m around 99.5% sure that we will have at least one more snow and if we do, we will attempt to open the men’s shelter to keep the guys out of the bitter cold.
Spring has always been one of my favorite times of year. It is a time of new beginnings, fresh starts and re-born life.
And we will be planting our garden for the Mission again this year.
We need to get a little more manure, straw and compost to help us out and we still have some herbs growing in our sun room and a few starts going in the greenhouse.
What I would really like to see is someone from the community to step up and take this thing over for us. We usually have plenty of labor, materials and advice, but we are lacking someone’s consistent, daily eye on the place.
A loving hand, so to speak.
Ivan, our maintenance and food pick up man and myself can usually get to it for brief periods each day, but there are times when we are pretty busy and it suffers from our neglect.
We’ve tried having some of our guests help out, but once again, they may be here today and gone tomorrow and lack more consistent supervision.
We use our garden produce in the Mission soup kitchen and give away any excess throughout the season and it is a huge and nutritious help to our mission of feeding the hungry in our town.
If you have the time, experience and interest or know anybody that does, please send them down so I can show them around and we can discuss things further.
