How You Can Help Your Friends And Neighbors
Prayer is always needed and always appreciated!
Jesus Christ said, “A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.” (John 13:34).

You can either show up anytime from 8:00 am-12 pm and we will put you to work or we can set up permanent days and hours to fit your schedule. Feel free to come in and take a tour and talk to us about our needs at anytime! We are very flexible and are always open to ideas or suggestions on how we can better serve our clients.
Here are a few areas where we need help:
Sorting items in the thrift store-this consists of going through donation bags and boxes, checking items for usability and putting them on hangers and sometimes pricing items and putting them on the shelves.
Cooking, serving and cleaning up in the kitchen-we always need help in the kitchen and groups are always welcome to come in and prepare a meal. Please call or drop by to schedule a day. We also have people who come in and cook pancakes for breakfast and prepare other food items like burritos, deviled eggs or desserts that we can hand out in food boxes or serve at a later time in the soup kitchen. A touch of creativity in meal preparation may be necessary, as we have to cook whatever has been donated.
Thanksgiving, Christmas and Good Friday dinners are always a great time to help.
Picking up food-We need strong volunteers with trucks to pick up food at various establishments throughout the week
Sorting food-weighing, sorting and bagging food items for handout
Cleaning-we always need help straightening our shelves and racks and cleaning around the Mission
Teaching and mentoring-we need life skills, job skills and Bible study teachers; let’s get together to discuss ideas
Gardening and greenhouse-we need help planting, growing and harvesting the food we do produce
Christian Lay Counselors-We need Christian case workers from 10 am-1:30 pm Monday through Friday to counsel our clients, refer them to resources we cannot provide, pray for them and to share Christ with them. Please call us for an interview and to schedule your day. If you just want to drop by and lend a friendly ear, please drop by anytime as we always have clients in the lunch room.
Heavy lifting-we need strong arms to help empty our clothing trailer around every 4 months when we take items to charity shoes
Landfill runs-we need someone with a truck to make monthly landfill runs (we can pay for the dumping, if needed)
Laundry help-we need help washing and folding the Mission laundry from the soup kitchen and showers
Food donations-We accept soup kitchen and food bank donations between the hours of 8:30 am and 1:30 pm. We can take fresh fruits and vegetables, USDA approved meats, breads, eggs, dried goods and any type of food product you would normally find in the grocery store. We cannot take prepared food items, unless they have been cooked in a commercial kitchen or they are a dessert (cookies, cakes, etc).
Household goods and clothing donations-We accept clean, usable clothing and any type of household goods, like kitchen items, small appliances, home decor and other items people may need and use around their home. Space permitting, we may also take large appliances or furniture items, but prefer to ask for these items on an as-needed basis.
Occasionally, we may put halt to accepting clothing if we are over-stocked, so please call. Please don’t drop when we are closed, as the homeless sometimes dig through the bags and scatter items all over the place
Any ripped or unusable clothing is donated to Charity Shoes who distribute them to third world countries instead of taking it to the landfill. Please only donate usable (or easily repairable items) and no trash. Thanks!
Cash donations-we are entirely non-profit; everything that is sold in the thrift store is put right back into the mission. You can make a tax-deductible cash donation online, at the mission or by mailing your check to PO Box 5198, Silver City, NM 88062.
Community Service Workers and interns-we accept all forms of community service (courts, welfare, sports, schools, etc) on a first-come, first-served basis. Feel free to come in anytime Monday through Friday from 8:30 am-1:30 pm and we will put you to work. We log your hours in the computer and you are responsible for managing your court paperwork.
We don’t allow cell phones and allow 1 fifteen minute break every two hours. We also give you the option of attending Bible Studies and eating lunch in the soup kitchen. We are a drug and alcohol-free workplace and reserve the right to not let you work here if you give us any problems.
Please contact us or drop by if you would like to lend a hand or feel free to download, print and share our flyer
Please see our page on taxes for more info about tax-deductible donations.
